I have been asked to fit a thumbturn bathroom lock. I ordered a set (handles and deadbolt) rather than buying the parts separately, as that should guarantee everything fits together and they would come in a box with instructions. Needless to say, what I received was a jiffy bag with the parts in, but no box or instructions. I will probably work out how to do the job from Youtube videos but I cannot account for the three hollow square metal pieces you can see at the bottom of the picture. They slide onto the 5mm bar but they are too big to fit into the square holes in the two handles or the square hole in the deadbolt, even if compressed with pliers. Can I ignore them?

Those metal bars are thinner than the ones normally used for door handles. Maybe those fittings increase them to the standard size, in case you need compatibility with something?Just a guess.

You don’t need them unless fitting handles as well as the thumb turn , they increase the thinner bar needed to fit this small lock.
