Last night the bedside lamp wouldn't switch on. No prob, I thought - and changed the bulb today. Hmmm.

Have pluged another lamp into the socket. Does not work.
Checked bulbs. All work.
Checked other sockets. All work.
Checked trip switches. All on.

It's the socket.

Whyon earth should a socket work one day (indeed for 10 years) and then suddenly stop working?

House was re-wired 10 years ago.

Suffer from mice in winter, but not this time of year.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Just to update, turns out it was not the socket - not one, but two different lamps had failed (not the bulbs, the lamps!) so neither worked when plugged in.

But the hoover did.....

cheers!

tip for the future, and first thing I would have done, would be to plug the offending lamp into another socket, and a KNOWN working device into suspect socket
