Narrow gate opening

Hey guys,

Ive got a narrow gate opening thats 2ft6. I'm looking for some solutions on how to fit a gate (either bought or made) without losing too much of the opening.

I was thinking about a couple of 3x2 battens bolted to the concrete posts, but then I'm still losing 4" of the opening! I figure a 3x1 wouldn't be suitable?

Has anyone come across any novel solutions?

Use a cranked hinge and mount the hinge on either the front face or the rear face of the post rather than the inside.

Then use as slim a keeper as possible on the wall.

I like it! Would it still be a good idea to bolt the batten to the post from the opposite direction as there are no pre-drilled holes this way

Yes, you are better off using an actual coach bolt and nut rather than using a plug or concrete screw as these can send small cracks through the posts when tightened.
