I decided to fit a third garden tap, dedicated just to the new automated plant watering system, one of those where it just clamps around the pipe, to make the connection, rather than solder. I'd worked out where to drill, from the outside, so it came in just behind some kitchen drawers, took the drawer out, spotted a 15mm copper pipe and made the assumption it was a cold water pipe. Before taking the drawers out, I'd planned to run the pipe through to the next cupboard along, where the sink is, meter and stop tap.

One on the drive, for car and general use, one on the rear corner for general use to the rear, now a third dedicated to the automatic watering system, even further round the back.

Even easier than planned, I thought - a connection actually behind the drawers, no need to faff about trying to connect to the complex pipework under the sink.

Luckily, I began asking myself why there might be a water pipe at the back of those drawers, to the right of the sink, because from memory, all the plumbing went left then back, or up to feed the upper floor. But then - why would it be a gas pipe?

Then I realised, gas comes in to feed the boiler which is on the right, then there was a 15mm which runs along the back of the units, past the sink to feed a possible gas fridge installation, which was never needed.

Phew - I have now written on that pipe - GAS! as a reminder.

Not sure why tape can only be applied by a gas safe registered engineer, talk about jobs for the boys.

Mind you as long as you can prove competence in applying tape to the correct pipe I would suggest you’d be okay ;)

I had a call from a customer one November that there hot water was not lasting as long as before .
I turned up at eight o'clock to see her garden in mist from the plant watering system which the installer had connected to her hot pipe (in June ).
Amazing display of flowers though .

I used yellow paint.
