Hi,

Just been to local electrical suppliers to trade for 11 metres of grey electrical flex. This is so that I can get to anywhere in the house with the vaccum cleaner without having to continually unplug and re-plug it as I move from room to room.

They don't have this. This will be effectivley 11 m of extension lead on the end of the existing vaccum cleaner grey flex.

Anyone know where I can buy 11 metres ?

Thank you

Kez

Why not get a reel type extension from such as B&Q? You'll need to 'wind it up' somehow anyway.

A wind up or coiled type lead would be better and neater. an extension to your vacuum lead would be a nightmare. The flex hooks or storage system on the appliance won't be designed to store it anyway.

Why grey as well?

Nice idea, don't you have sockets in the rooms?

Thing being that a long lead simply gives a trip hazard for others, and will become snagged on something, the gap between door and floor for instance.

If you must, research your Hoover and confirm the size of the flex, if in doubt cut a piece off and visit a electrical wholesale outlet and show them, they will match it, maybe not in grey sheath which isn't important to the function.

How do you intend to join the cables? An inline flex joiner could be used, bu that gives another snag point on the flex length.

Better still, replace the whole flex and fix the new flex direct to the vac termination point.

If the above has put you off, buy a reel extension and use that.

Thanks for comments and ideas folks.

A: Flex will fitted as a straight forward extension cable.

I am looking for grey flex extension lead, 11m long.

Thank you Chris. The TLC cable was black so I phoned. They had nothing in grey. Thank you very much anyway.

Thank you TTC. I googled a plenty. You're just much better at it than I am. Thank you. It's been ordered.

Thanks to all for much appreciated help ...

So how do you intend to join the cables?

male plug one end into wall, female plug other into vaccum cleaner plug.

It's been ordered.
You're sure your cleaner doesn't need an earth?

Good point. I assumed it would have an earth. I will put the order on hold and check that out. Thanks for that.

I haven't seen a metal Class I vacuum for many years, I'd be surprised if any vaccuums made for domestic use now are anything but double insulated. (Somebody will prove me wrong -you wait and see).

But a good point.

Take the plug off and see if theres two or three cores. If its two core you're good to go with the Dyson part.

it's twin not twin and earth, so i can go ahead with the dyson cable.

Thank you everyone,

Kez

We've got a curley extension lead behind the sofa to plug the vac into. You can vac anywhere on the ground floor using that.
