I want to extend an extension (simple 4 socket extension)

I need to put the cable through trunking - so need to make sure the bit where I extend isn't too big

I'm not sure where to start

I know I can go to the electrical shop and just buy the correct wire - but how do I safely connect + keep the connection small?

Thanks

Why not buy enough cable to replace the whole length from sockets to plug. That way there is no joint hidden in trunking and unaccessible,, just lurking there to be a potential hazard when the screws come loose and the joint gets hot.

yes, the right thing to do
i assume connecting 2 wires would be better?
hmmm...

He can't have meant that, surely?

But until/unless he tells us what he actually needs to achieve rather than asking random questions about one aspect of a solution he's come up with which might not be a good one, there's little we can do.

guys, thanks for the replies
ok: i admit maybe i was being dumb above :)

i've done as u guys suggested: I've gone and purchased a big length of wire from my local electric shop

i've got my screw driver set out and... i'm stuck
i need a screw driver that I've never seen before
the screw on the plug extension is really odd - it has grooves on two opposite sides + a tiny bit in the middle

the bit in the middle means u can't use a standard screw driver

i have checked 2 different extensions - both are the same

where am i going wrong? what type of screw drive do i need?

thanks

sealed extension lead outlet.
means you ain't gonna be able to extend the extension.
go back to you `electrical supplier` and get a new 4 / 6 way extension lead block

and then connect you cable/plug etc

aaah!
damn!
thanks for letting me know - i would have wasted time otherwise trying to figure out how to get the damn thing open!

it wasn't the fault of the 'electrical supplier' - i just went in and asked for 5m of cable!

but that's got me thinking: i could have just got a longer extension instead of attempting my diy electrical extension job! :) :)

i do have another electrical extension though where the screws are normal screws - i might give a go opening that up and replacing the wire now that i have it
