I need some advice about fitting stair gates

I have purchased ones from Ikea that you screw to the wall

Problem: the edge holding the pivot is on a corner - I can't help this being the case
This causes a BIG problem in that the gate can be opened and if pushed enough, the corner acts as a lever and therefore means that my secure fixing on the wall just comes off really easily

Hope the above makes sense!

I'm confused what I can do to solve the problem
I can put a door stopper on the floor and screw into the floor
I don't want to do this - it means screwing through carpet + having to fit more than one door stopper on top of each other to make it high enough

In case someone mentions using the other type of gate that has the gate built into the gate - we tried 2 of these top and bottom and have decided against them because they're a BIG safety hazard - but that's a different story

Not sure if any of the above makes sense

Any replies would be great

Thanks
