Need closable 4 inch vent ...
All I can find is ones with big flaps.
Only bigger ones have a slide where I can close.

I've tried screwfix and amazon
Can't find.

Am I searching for the wrong thing?

Thanks.

Oh...
I didn't know I had replies on this thread

I have an office on my back garden. I have a vent on one corner

Surely there has to be 4 inch fans that you can close?

@SFK all i need is a manual open and close unit
On the other corner, I have an extractor fan already

@magicmushroom666 is this what u mean:

how does it work?
do i insert behind the existing vent?
how do i then close it?

i just dont get why the world hasnt thought of having a closable 4 inch vent - different to the ones that have big massive flaps.
i must be missing something here :(

Okay undertsood now.
You have a room with a 4" duct fan in one wall, and a 4" hole in the other wall.
You want to mechanically control the flow of air through the 4" hole.

Your image is a of a "4 backdraught shutter". Lots more here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?cli...k1j0i13k1j0i13i30k1j0i13i5i30k1.0.OckwRuUmJt4
It is a balanced (some times sprung) flap in a tube. It goes after the fan. The flap is blown open when the fan is on, and gravity (or a spring) closes it when fan is off. The image shows it upside down so that gravity is opening the flap. Many extractor fans have this built in after the fan. So it is all automatic. In reality it works the same as the External Gravity Grills this: https://www.rselectricalsupplies.co...MIwtfst4jz1wIVTrXtCh30BwgvEAQYAyABEgJpRvD_BwE

I think/presume that you are looking for a 4" / 100mm Grill vent that you can manually open and close. in the 4" hole But I have never seen one of these. Presumable because manufacturers thin that you would never have a fan infront of a closer that you could manually close when fan was on (perhaps overheating the fan).

The closest item I have seen is this which you could put over the 4" hole on the inside of the room:

An you could put this on the outside wall for the air to enter through:

@SFK thanks
exactly what i'm talking about :)
so i think you're right. i need to buy a bigger one. i hadnt thought if that actually :)

Tiger,
Nice looking product.
But I expect it is not suitable for OP without some modification to his Vent pipe, as it has a 102mm outer diameter, and so the screw holes will fall inside his 4"/102mm diameter vent pipe.

thanks for replies guys.
think the metal circle might do it.
but i think i'll just go for a big vent.
still think its crazy there is no 4 inch closable vent. :)
