I would like to have an adjustable standing desk, but they're about £400 and up.
So I decided I would like to make one. I've looked around on youtube for inspiration and the only idea I've had would involve metal and expertise tools.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I could make an adjustable standing desk out of wood? The mechanism of making it adjustable is the part I'm struggling with.

Thanks

Either that or a sliding action frame with drilled holes and a metal dowles as locking pins.

No need to overcomplicate. Simply buy two wooden desk trestles from Ikea, then add 4 blocks of wood to make the top stand higher. I bought a big bit of toughened glass to finish it off, and have been standing at it for over 10 years!
