Hi,

I have made a custom desk (L shaped built into the wall - about 3 meters in each direction. I have painted it with a high-gloss sikens paint and it looks superb, but despite leaving it for 2 weeks before use, it is already getting marks, chipping and generally not standing up to daily use.

I am going to need to put another top surface onto it and would like your advice. At the moment I am considering putting some sort of wrap onto it but have no experience with this. Questions would be:

- Where could I source a material for wrapping the desk.
- How do you deal with joins (I am not going to be able to find a single piece large enough.
- The desk has a cut out (two 45 degree cuts in so that the desk wraps around me as a work) how would I cut the material to ensure that it shapes nicely

Whist I say I have no experience with these wraps, I have previously put protective 3m material on my motorbike with soapy water and a heat gun. Is this similar, but instead of soapy water there is adhesive?

I have used polyvine decorators varnish on ply desk tops and it's pretty tough, I'm pretty sure you can use it over gloss paints

Two part floor varnish is very hard , used it on a conference table that had been painted.
