Hello and nice forum.

4 houses (63, 65, 67, 69) At the end of xxxxx Road, xxx by the railway line have their own shared cesspits for sewage and waste.

House 63 and 65 (our house is 65) is fine as the cesspit is a new electrical 3 tiered unit which is only 4 years old.

The problem lies with our neighbours whose is an old one and often gets full and the soakway is actually under their garden.

For the last few months this has been overflowing and as a result has spilled and created a large flooding of disgusting waste water which is affecting more than just the garden.

We have a bespoken shed built there In the summer of 2007 ( where theres no was no indication of known problems, but previous owner knew it did over flow ) This shed is huge and is the home of several pets inclusive of show ferrets and rabbits and guinea pigs ( in the last few weeks we have had 3 guinea pigs die - a result of the sewage-- i dont know ).

It is only a matter of time before this flooding reaches the other side of the garden ( its over half way across now ) and start to eat away the garden and 2 other specialised shed and ferret courts.

We also have a dog, chickens and 3 children who are very young and would like to play in the garden, at present this is impossible, as we do not know what we can catch from this now would we wish to risk any harm to anyone.

The water/sweage smells and there is now green growth growing around the shed and the main shed rafters on the concrete base are also now in contact with the sewage waste.

What can be done about this, and who would it need reporting to ? I know that we are in the clear as we have had our cesspits checked out and the problem is 100% coming from nextdoors cesspit.

Its coming summer now and we have a ruined garden. Would it be possible for an inspector to visit and view and possible give us advice as to what happens next.

Any Ideas, or what I could do would be very appreciated.

Kind Regards.

I think you are being a bit silly, some neighbours actually get on and her husband (neighbour) has actually been on to the Environ Age themsevles and has called in an inspector to examine and advise costs.

That's right. I'm the silly one, with my sewage free garden and healthy pets and children.

Silly, silly, silly, silly, silly, silly me.

actually yes they are odour free and probably nothing like the ferret u have known to smell - ferrets used for hunting and ferreting do have the odour - but show ferrets dont as we have them neutured.

Youll be surprised how naturally clean ferrets are. cleaner than a dog normally.

My ferret ***** is very clean and litter trained. He sleeps under the bed in the winter. If he ever starts to smell her indoors puts him in the bath. They make very nice house pets.

:) we have 20 ferrets.. all litter trained and are handled everyday.. Gorgeous things.

We have an someone coming round tommorow to view the problem in the garden ans to advise the neighbour of what they need/should do and how much it will cost.

So things are starting to move now.

Clearly we're operating on entirely non-overlapping scales of cleanliness.

In my world, dogs are fun, but hideously unhygienic. To be cleaner than a dog is as significant a description as being less promiscuous than Russell Brand.

And call me old-fashioned, but effluent in my garden for more than 24 hours would involve the local authority, photographs, a letter or two, and some polite but highly unambiguous words with the person responsible. After another 24 hours the tank at the source of the problem would be empty and the owner of the tank would have a bill in his letterbox.

Not wanting to second guess you as you obviously are quite an experienced keeper of small furry animals but is it such a great idea to house Ferrets and guinea pigs/rabbits in the same shed/area?

It wouldn't surprise me if the presence of the ferrets were causing a certain amount of stress to their herbivorous neighbours - could this not explain the deaths?

I kept my grandad's garden rabbit free for about 6 months by hanging up nets of used ferret bedding off the trees - OK my ferrets weren't neutered and descented but I would have thought Rabbits and Guinea pigs can still recognise their scent...
