OP - sensible decision. You have saved yourself a lot of pain and expense. Look at Which? Trusted Trader site and go to the very last page to find the ones who don't pay for TT status but have been put on there because they have had excellent feedback from numerous members.

you won't regret it, installer might be a bit p*ssed but he should have no problem changing boiler type . i think the 35kw is way too big (kw) for your house when only mainly using that power for your hw when you would be comfortable with a less rated boiler . do you know why the supplier ( is it a well known supplier ?) was eager to sell you the viessmann did they give a reason why ? but what i would say is you need to do your research when spending money like that ( lucky you have in a way but late )

I really don't know why you are unable to accept what we have told you about the cost of the repair.
But you can use a fixed price repair from British Gas for about £300.
But most reasonable independents would charge far less.
As I told you already, I repair most for just £94 in my local area. There are several causes and so my costs could in a few cases be more but never more than £194 !

The key word when you dealing with a merchant is margin, the profit made on the sale. If he gets more for one than another that'll be the one he recommends. Many merchants sell particular boiler brands at a loss but make it up on the rebate (numbers sold in a month). Those brands will be the one's heavily advertised to the public on the media so Joe Bloggs walks into the shop with a name on his lips. Those companies without the marketing budget sell the boilers cheaper so they stand a chance and so the seller has an incentive to earn a better margin at the point of sale not at the end of the month, maybe.
Think also about the advice you've received here. All the unscrupulous plumbers and heating engineers you hear about in the press but they're all telling you to fix the boiler not change it. Admittedly the likelihood of them getting the word is not considered but there's no incentive for them to mislead you either. Vaillant, albeit not as good as they once were, if well installed and serviced properly will do 15 years as most boilers will; it's the care put into them that makes the difference. The installer is more important than the machine.
