I curerntly have (I think!) 2 2way switches, 1 on the landing operating the attic light independantly and 1 in ther attic doing the same. I want to replace the switch in the attice room from a plastic switch to a metal dimmer switch. On the original there is a C, an L1 and L2. On the new dimmer there is an L1, L2, an earth and another symbol that looks like a switch symbol. I have a red, blue and yellow wire - any suggestions. PS - appears to be no earth wire!

Try two (that'll teach me to skim read posts)

funny switch symbol should be common, connect the wires how they were on the old switch, actually before you do that you should have a closer look to see if there is an earth thats been trimmed off, if you do find one, you'll have to veryify that it is actually connected to earth, and then either pull some more cable and strip it back or crimp an extension onto it, if you do not find an earth, you'll have to get a class 2 dimmer (and if the back box is metal, some nylon screws)

OOI: the earth isn't connected to the backbox already or anything is it?
