Hi,

We just noticed when we open our new aluminium
windows the coating in the gap where the screws have
gone into the frames is peeling off very easily.

I am concerned about the metal becoming rusty
underneath, is it usual for this coating to come
off so easily? View media item 89469 [/img]

That section of the window should in theory be plastic.
Dry tapping that bit with your nail and then tap the inner or outer bit too and you should be able to notice the difference in materials.

The plastic section is sandwiched between the inside and outside and is called a thermal break.

What they have done is over-tighten the screws a little which had bowed the plastic causing the paint to crack. Call the fitters back and they should touch up the paint, They may need to slacken the screws a fraction too.
