Internal Window Frame Gap

Hi,

Every winter we start to get condensation on our windows overnight, not horribly excessive thankfully and it's fairly manageable.

I want to give the window sill a fresh coat of paint as the paint is starting to wear off year by year and it will end up exposing the bare wood, the paint does a good job at preventing the condensation droplets going into the wood thereby potentially rotting it etc. before being wiped off next morning.

Also realised there is a small about 1-2mm gap between the window frame and the sill all around (photos attached not visible well though)? I wanted to chalk it before applying the fresh coat of paint or even potentially using silicone (aware this cant be painted thereafter).

Wondering if there is a gap for a reason? The window frame itself is aluminium not uPVC.

Thanks.

That looks like aluminium set into a hardwood subframe.

My guess is the aluminium frame is set in a rebate and what you can see is the tolerance gap where the aly profile lips over the hardwood.

it will be sealed in the rebate so it’s just cosmetic what you are seeing.

Could there be harm adding chalk i.e. trapping moisture/water? As it does feel a bit cold but probably from the frame itself.
