Hi all,

I have just fitted a new basin tap (hot), suitable for all supply pressures.

However it takes about 2 full turns before the water flows. Is there anything I can do about this? The old tap that I replaced did not have this problem.

Thanks

If it takes two turns to make the water flow, are you also turning it twice after the water has stopped flowing? Or is your problem that you turn it off until the water just stops, but it then takes you two turns to get any improvement in flow?

hi muggles,

When i go to turn the new tap on there is little or no flow up until the tap is fully opened after about 2 turns, at that point there is a good flow. It is the same when shutting off, the flow just seems to be when the tap is fully open. There is nothing inbetween. Faulty Tap?

 just a new tap that opens after 2 turns, shuts after 2 turns,

Is the supply pressure the same for both taps?
If the cold supply is at mains pressure, the water pressure could easily force the jumper of it's seating as soon as you start turning the tap. The high pressure will give a good flow through a relatively small opening.

With a gravity hot water supply, the pressure is a lot lower, so you may need to take up the backlash in the mechanism, then turn the tap spindle further to lift the jumper off it's seat. The low pressure also means the flow will only increase gradually as you open the tap further.

Hi TicklyT, Thanks for that.

The supply pressure is the same for both taps.

I think I will try some adjustments and see how it goes.
