Hi,

Please bear with me, the technical jargon and knowledge are coming, this is my first house.

I am installing a new bathroom soon (trial by fire). The bath and basin taps I would like are not suitable for my system. I have an unbalanced, vented system. Apparently you cannot install waterfall mixer taps on an unbalanced system.

So... I have set about finding a solution to enable the better half to have the desired taps. I have stumbled across pressure equalising valves, and they seem to be of much benefit to unbalanced systems.

My questions:
Can / should I install a pressure equalising valve on the cold and hot feed which will ultimately feed the bath, basin and shower or do I need to install separate valves on each?

If I do this, does it effectively give me a balanced system across these three appliances (for want of a better word) enabling me to have the mixer taps, with the added bonus of making the new shower less prone to scalding if taps are turned on?

Can these be used with a thermostatic shower?

What are the downsides?

Many, many thanks in advance.

if you read they say balanced pressures, a min of 1 bar.
if you have gravity hot at 0.2bar and mains cold at 2.0bar and you fit a pressure equalising valve you will end up with 0.2bar on both supplys.
not enough
