New boiler - cost please.

I have moved in to an old house and a Potterton Suprima 60 boiler came with the Victorian abode ..................... and guess what ?? - yep, it's not very good.
If a nice CORGI chap cannot fix the PCB (whatever that is???) how much would a replacement boiler cost and can anyone recommend a decent one that does not cut out 4-5 years after installation. I live in Kent if that affects cost.

Any competent engineer should be able to fix your boiler by replacing the PCB. ( Thats the electronics "brain" which controls the boiler! )

This has recently been redesigned for better reliability but costs even more, about £160 just to purchase! So you will be looking at about £250 to repair it.

To replace the boiler you will now need a condensing boiler which will save about 10-15% off your gas bill. You might have to fit TRvs and even a replacement cylinder if yours is old and inefficient. You are probably looking at about £1500 to £2500.

Repairing your boiler is certainly going to be the cheapest option!

Don't take much notice of parts prices quoted on this site. They change, and vary a lot. The price just quoted may or may not be available when you want a pcb, and you may need more than the pcb, and it does not include vat, and it's a lot less than the retail price.
Sometimes new parts are faulty and the engineer has a huge problem tryng to get any recompense. Some parts get damaged after purchase, and thefts happen.
Nobody making a living would be expected to stock parts or buy them specially without making a profit on them, (even if they do charge a higher than average repair fee).


If you go to get your BMW mended and tell the garage you expect them to charge the part price which you saw on the internet, and not charge VAT on it, you won't get very far!
