Hi All!

So I can sense we're going to need a new boiler really soon - you know when you can feel its on the horizon.

I've never had to organise a new boiler before, so I wondered what information do I need to collect before approaching someone to find and install one? Is it just model and make?? Been reading about (link removed) choosing the right boiler size, as wasn't sure if that was relevant? Is there anything else I should check like water supply, radiator makes etc?

Or is it best to just call a plumber first and they'll let me know what I need to know? Want the process to be as smooth and efficient as possible!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

first off you want to find a decent heating engineer, chances are the current boiler can just have a good service and be good to go.

If hell bent on a new boiler, you need to decide if you want just a straight swap or whether you want to swap to combi (this will enable the removal of water tanks for additional space), or install a sealed system in place of an open vent system.

do you have any issues or annoyances with your current hot water/heating setup that you wish to change whilst replacing the boiler, i.e slow running hot water taps?

regards what boiler brand, they all offer decent warranties, and i'd probably advising going the direction of the heating engineer you choose, if they are any good they will have a relationship witht he manufacturer should there be any issues, they will know the boilers well and be able to setup the boiler correctly.

i would also look into the possibility of upgrading your thermostat to an open therm type setup, which essentially offers low temp heating, with much less of an overshoot, and makes really comfortable living, but also is highly efficient and could save money depending on current setup.
