Just bought a new house a few weeks ago, and the bedroom ceilings are either bowing or are completley shot! i've been told they need re-boarding, but need to be battened out with 3 x 2 wood first. Are nails or screws best and is it important to get a joiner to do this or could two novices do this? as I have been waiting about 2 months for a family friend who is a joiner to do it, with no look!

Is the house you have bought newly built ,
if so the ceilings should not bowing or shot.
If it is an old house, the ceilings might be lathe and plaster. This can tire over the years and might be you're problem .
