Hello.

Finally getting round to putting a door between our internal garage and hallway. The wall is single thickness 100mm aerated block, and I think load bearing as joists from two directions, start & finish above the wall. There is no 1st floor wall above the wall I need to make a hole in.

Am I right in guessing a concrete lintel 100mm x 65mm would be OK to use in this situation?

Cheers

Quite right - if you can get away with a 100 x 140 it always feels that bit stronger, if you're restricted for height a 65mm will be fine.

Yes, but make life easier for yourself and use a 4"x4" timber lintel (eg offcut from a fence post). Lighter, probably cheaper, and easier to fix plasterboard to.

Thank you gentlemen.

As long as the house doesn't fall down because of me I'm happy!

Cheers
