New drill set ? For a sparky

if self employed again as mentioned you could get tax relief on some of the tools and cloths and some prof registrations, not sure what the rules are these day - sure someone will help on current HMRC rules
If he is SE & a Sole Trader the total cost of any tool he buys for his job can be offset against his tax liability.

Or put another way any cost relating to his business can be offset, however things like using the home as an office, laundry, work clothes, phone bills and a few others I can't remember have set allowances.

Advertising and registrations are fully tax deductible.

But, the OP needs to understand that if he pays £5000 in his first year for tools the HMRC aren't going to give him £5k back.

I have klein wiha and wera vde drivers (slimline) one set each for the tool bag, helps ID them. Makita or Dewalt for cordless tools, Makita can be a lot cheaper and are well designed/engineered. Their xgt 40 volt kit is however ridiculously expensive

As per other posts, if you are going for battery based tools, you will be locked into their ecosystem because of the cost of the batteries and chargers.

Off the top of my head, Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee will offer the widest range of tools that you might need without requiring you buy outside of their ecosystem.

Yeah I seen some cheap makita ones at screwfix. Nor sure if it's worth it just to get the brushed motor ones over brushless?

the brushless should allow batteries to last longer, have a bit more power, maybe a bit smaller and of course wont need replacement brushes if used a lot - and if possible to replace easily

I tried to get all brushless - BUT made the mistake thinking that on dewalt XT meant brushless and it didnt

Pretty much everything is brushless now, more power and longer runtime make it an obvious choice.

Never had any makita tools but the one thing I would like is the coffee machine.

If this 'set' involves an impact driver, you can give that a big swerve.
There are zero uses for impact drivers when doing electrical installation work.
Really I use one every day, mainly for putting in screws

just had this email - not a huge saving on dewalt tools
note its exVat , also they took over FFX
often available cheap as a bare unit - not sure about all the gearing , if metal or not - so maynot be great
i have a cheap combi drill

also i like this 3 speed impact driver and used a lot , at lots of different setting, used on elecrical boxes , on offer bare

i use both with 2ah batts mostly as light weight

i dont have a cordless sds - but also on sale

various sale items - but have a good look around as i say saving is not a great deal
