hi guys,
im fairly amateur at the whole diy thing so could really use some help!
bought a 1940s semi-detached house last year which had no fire div wall. got my neighbour to put one in this autumn as dont trust my neighbours/fire safety! have also insulated the half the loft at the same time. the section above the bathroom is not yet insulated and has small gaps in ceiling as have put spotlights in.

now have HUGE condensation dripping down felt. the only eaves vents are on the side of the house parallel with the new fire dividing wall. there are no roof/tile vents. the fire div wall is a VERY snug/airtight fit and im wondering if thats caused the lack of ventilation by blocking air circulation thru their side of the house. or is it the new insulation? have one end wall, though this is perpendicular to the eaves vents. could i drill holes into the brickwork (what size bit), would it be safe and would it help? what are my other options?

thanks a million

Sounds like the fire wall has stopped the through flow of ventilation between you and your neighbours house. To correct this you will need to install some eaves ventilation on both sides to get that through flow back, the recommended amount is a continuous 10mm wide gap for an un-inhabited roofspace (BS 5250) if you dont have a suitable eaves system, you can use tile/slate vents but to get enough ventilation to meet the equivilant of 10mm continuous, the vents start to look a bit unsightly.

www.glidevale.com give good examples of roof ventilation systems.

thanks guys.
we dont have sofit vents at the moment - would these be a solution?
regarding the eaves - i dont think its possible to improve the flow as the main open eaves are parallel to the fire dividing wall. the other eaves are perpendicular - and are opposite a brick end wall. any ideas on how much tile vents would cost?
cheers
