Hi,

Just wondered if someone could run throught the re connection of a gas supply.

I have purchased a property and need to get gas in, there is a gas pipe in but it is not live according to Transco and I need to nominate a supplier who will instal a meter.

Any pitfalls etc that I may need to know

Where should the meter be situated etc etc

Thanks

Youi select a supplier they talk to TRansco and decide if that pipe can be madse live or you need a new one, they arrange some clowns to come and fit you a meter where it suits them, that will be left unusable by you with a label on telling you to call one of us RGI, we will connect you up to the new meter and make it work.

...and the meter will probably be supported only by the gas pipe on the inlet side of the meter. Better stock up on rawlplugs & screws.

Paul left out the bit about the quotation!

Unless there was a meter there a few months ago they will tell you the pipe is unserviceable and quote about £300-£1200 to fit a new one. You will then have to agree in writing and probably to pay all or a large deposit and then they will schedue the job to contractors with Irish names who will get paid about 30% of the cost quoted to you.
