I HAVE BOUGHT A 300GB H/D, AFTER INSTALLATION IT ONLY SHOWED UP AS 31.49GB.
MY PC IS 6 YEARS OLD WITH WINXP HOME,512 RAM.
IS IT NOT COMPATBLE WITH MY M/BOARD
 
First, turn your caps lock off please.

Next, can you provide more information about your system, such as make and model of PC, or even better, the motherboard model?

Are you using SP2?

Have you set the jumpers on the hard disk correctly (ie, you haven't clipped the drive)?
 
sorry about the caps lock, the motherboard is KT3ULTRA 2CE, MS-6380E ver 1.0 the h/d is a SAMSUNG HD 300 ULTRA, 8MB BUFFER ULTRA ATA INTERFACE 7200rpm, i have set it as a slave. thanks for your reply

There are several ways to set the jumpers to slave. Check out this document.

The jumpers need to be set as in the general diagram, ie. both jumpers on the bottom or spare position.

If it's a motherboard issue, you could check that you have the latest BIOS or use Samsungs DiskManager utility to get around the problem.
