Hi all at DIYnot,

My current S Plan heating & hot water system & boiler etc is in bad need of upgrading, having been in since around 1999 & the boiler is playing up a lot now.

I am trying to decide what system to go for - the house is a medium size traditional brick/tile 3 bed semi with a conservatory/utility room extension. There are only 2 of us living there currently, but I have overnight visitors & the shower is in daily fairly heavy use, not so much baths but lots of showers etc - usually in a short time space

it's a overhead monsoon type shower, so uses quite a bit of water & currently needs a 2.5bar separate pump to operate - I would like to get rid of this too if possible

the current S plan system + potterton Suprima also doesn't seem to be quite up to the task heating wise either - the radiators in the conservatory & utility room have never got very warm.

I like my hot water storage tank + to have two methods of heating my water with the immersion heater backup, so I was thinking of a system boiler with a new tank?

It's all in the loft - so space isn't really an issue.

So what do you recommend? :

1. System boiler with tank
2. Combi
3. Storage boiler
4. Keep existing S Plan system/tanks & just replace the boiler on it's own with a modern/more efficient one.

I appreciate the system boiler option will be more expensive, but also if someone could give a rough estimate of total cost of the above 4 options.

Thanks in advance
