New High tech cameras to enforce 20mph roads

I already got 3 points from last year. I was caught doing 30 in a 20 zone. I didn't realise I was in a 20 zone...
worth thoroughly checking a 20 zone is enforceable, many aren't. too late now of course.

Covid has had a long term impact on people going to the capital - something like a 2/5th are leaving or likely to leave. Its also been ranked the slowest city on earth 3 years running.

I was all over these numbers 15 years ago, when all the speed kills bs, first came out. Unfortunately, there is too much money to be made taxing drivers making mistakes. Whether its deliberately badly designed box junctions or speed vans tucked behind bridges, it drives in the money and ticks the something must be done box. I prefer boats, speed limits where necessary and the rest of the time you can go as fast as your wallet lets you (motor boats) or your skill allows (sailing boats).
Vehicle mileage is down ~ 4.5% in London in 2024 Vs the peak in 2019. 19.4 Vs 20.3. Nationally it is flat.

Motorbikes are way up and bikes slightly up, other types are down. Which is a bit of a surprise as motorcyclists are so accident prone you'd expect they would have dragged up the injury/death rate.

Then again reducing vehicle traffic and getting more people walking or on the tube and busses is one of the TFL objectives, so we should be checking that. If we're making the roads safer by getting people on the underground then that's still a win.

until you look at the death by bus rate ;)

I think we can blame fatties needing cold McWhoppers for the increase in motorbikes and electric "motorbikes". They probably don't hang about when they crash.

Driving at 20mph is painfully slow, and frustrating to boot. (25mph seems much more sensible as a restricted speed) it just seems to be rolled out everywhere in London, and is clearly a money making scheme.

Note that none of his extra revenue has gone towards recruiting a new green cross code man. (RIP Dave)

I think it depends on the area. I'd say 20 'is' plenty in a street like this.

Ironic that a record breaking racing driver wearing a protective helmet has been in a coma for the last 13 years after a skiing accident. Cars are necessary for a lot of people. Skiing isn't necessary for anyone. Do you think it’s time to ban skiing now to get those deaths and serious injuries down?

Didn't take you long to run out of proper arguments, did it.

What bothers me is if you dare to drive at 20-25 in a 20 zone, you're almost guaranteed to have a tail of increasingly irate drivers behind you.

Fkkk them.

Only yesterday I was driving in a built up area, 30 zone. I was doing 33. White van appeared from side street and sat on my tail. I reckon they were maybe 6ish feet from me.

Should have dropped your speed to 30.

So yeah, in a way I'd welcome the fact if we literally couldn't speed (or tailgate) through tech, however as long as we have free will in these scenarios, the challenges will continue.

Everybody is free to obey the law if they choose.
