Hi,
Any rough ideas how much a new hot water cylinder should cost to supply and fit....
It is a lage tank - approx 5ft tall - top section is header tank for central heating and I think it is a vented type.

Thanks

are you talking about a combination cylinder ?
the top part is for the dhw not central heating.

Well they are probably about £250 to buy and perhaps about £150-£300 to fit depending on how much pipework has to be changed.

Also needs a new immersion element !

IIRC there's a version around with two header tanks above the cylinder (cold feed and heating F&E).

Or do you have a primatic cylinder? They have the central heating header incorporated INSIDE the cylinder, so there's no true seperation of heating and hot water. Many consider them bad news, as you can't use any additives to protect the heating circuit.

Are you sure it's not a thermal store?

Is your house by any chance a wilcon homes house?

These type of cylinders are expensive......i'd move house :D

Yep it's a thermal store. You'd be looking at around £1000 for replacement, depending on the size.

Is there a reason it needs replacing?

The tank itself is ok - maybe needs new valve in the top section as the one i fitted as a replacement doesn't shut off sometimes and overflows.

Also the other issue is leaks from the connecting pipes - several of them are really badly corroded with limescale etc that has been dripping/seeping for years.

So I suppose it is possible to replace all the pipework and the valve if the tank is ok??

Also a reaon for changing it was cost - it is so big and takes a while to get hot, a smaller tank would be more economical??
