New house alarm

Hi Everyone, we are about to move to a house with an existing Everest alarm. It was functioning perfectly but following a power cut it now won't work and comes up with a 'requires service/maintenance'. Phoned Everest to ask them for help ... apparantly we need to get an engineer over to reset it and will have to do this (at £75 a go) everytime there's is a powercut. Or we pay £300 p.a. for a service contract. The house we've been renting has an alarm and is fine after power cuts so am finding this all a bit strange. So, my question is, will another engineer (ie. not an Everest one) be able to help us reset the system and maybe even make it a bit more user friendly so we don't have to call an engineer every 2 seconds!!? What are my options? TIA for your help.

Is it police or keyholder calling?
£75 for a new battery and service is okay.

£300 is a joke. If bells only.

Ask them to remove it leaving all wiring intact and get a new one.

Its not a police/key holder alarm. The alarm was serviced in June this year so we would just be paying for some engineer to come and press a few buttons. Think they do this to force you into an expensive contract. Hope it isn't too pricey for them to remove the damn thing!

Depends on your contract.

Tell them your moving from them because of this and want the equipment collected on a certain date, have it ready for them undamaged and there should be no charge.

Fiver says they never collect it

Get a new system installed, have the old removed at the same time and boxed up for collection by a certain date or it will be disposed of.

There again you bought the house, fixtures & fittings (alarm), it's yours, do with it what you will, you have no contract with Everest.

You can get a whole new system for £300.
