New House: What are these!?

I have purchased a property. There are a couple of strange little things bolted to the floor of the kitchen, i dont have a clue what they are!

can anyone advise?

old fashioned gate valve heads

the valves are most likely still in the floor as well possible heating, possible hot and cold feeds

me thinks you have a plumbing job acoming

Yes they are, but i bet you cant turn them

The red bits in "my picture" are what you see in your picture, the remainder in "my picture" is what you cant see in your picture

other sizes / brands of gate valve are available

Nothing and Nought precisely

if it ain't broke don't fix it !! when they do eventually leak or get in the way then thats the time to deal with them

phew - nothing that needs doing straight away then - cheers guys.
they are pretty ugly where they are- i assume i cant move them..!?

fyi - it is an upstairs flat, im assuming this has something to do with where they are.

picture of the whole kitchen might help..

I have something similar in my flat..
the water used to come up the pantry wall from the flat below.. but since the pantry wall was taken out, the water now comes up about a foot out from the side wall.. it's chaneled into the floor and up the wall..
