I'm in the process of fitting a new kitchen and will be fitting laminate flooring when it's finished.

Appliances will be freestanding and will have laminate flooring underneath them.

My question:

The cabinets either side of each appliance can be built as normal, with a 15cm gap underneath, or they can be fitted with a full height side panel, which goes right down to floor level.

Is it best to fit the full height panel, and then fit laminate under each appliance, leaving a small expansion gap all the way round, or to fit the normal cabinet sides and leave a 15cm high gap under the side of the unit? This will allow laminate to be fitted under the appliances and extended slightly under each cabinet at the side, much like the laminet would extend underneath the kickboards at the front?
