New Plaster in Bathroom

Hi
I am painting a bathroom for a friend. He wants it done on eggshell. Is it ok to do my first mist coat in vinyl matt (white Dulux trade) then two coats eggy?

Is the eggshell water or oilbased?

Personally I would only use 'supermatt' to miscoat the walls, I wouldnt use vinyl, but once its sealed you can put on the water based eggshell.
