New plaster - sealer, mist coat or both?

Hi, are must coats still the way foward or is there a reliable sealer out there

I painted a ceiling in my new extension last year and mist coated as usual …. I can see every joist (flat roof) and have never been able to rectify. I wonder if this was because of suction and sealer would have been better ‍
I have another timber framed extension and don’t want the same thing again

Any advice from painters

Not a painter, but if you want to go down the sealer route - Zinsser Gardz is great stuff.

Yeah I just can’t be dealing with the grief again lol
I’m a tradesman only ever had issues with bleeding though at my own house …. Typical
