I guess I will patch the gap with bit of tile and try to get something to go over it so it's not on show.
Looks like a regular thermostatic bar mixer it is, ideally Bristan due to never having an issue with their products and spares are simple to source.
On another note I can't get a concealed shower into the wall easy enough without making more mess!

Cover that hole with a mirror and maybe a shower caddy over the top and use a bar mixer shower valve... Don't go concealed... Its not worth the agg of fitting and you wont be held over a barrel for a new cartridge when the time comes.
You can get a bar mixer that has a rain shower and a hand-held, via a diverter.
