Putting in a new bathroom and a new shower.

Its a 10.8 shower, trying to save money and buy and route the cable myself. Then only get the electrician in to wire it all up and test.

Cable will be running up two floors, up over the loft conversion then back down into the bathroom. im thinking about 18m?

Should there be a fused switch outside the bathroom in between? And will 10mm2 be correct?

Thanks

There's a bit more to it than that, it depends how the cable is installed, ie in trunking, clipped to a wall, covered with insulation etc., Here's a link to an on line calculator, just enter your details.

Not sure about getting someone else to check your work and certify it as their own, (look at the other Part P threads on the forum). The proper way for a DIY'er to do this, is to get your LABC to check it, but you must notify them before starting and pay their fee.

Yes you need a 45A switch outside, or a 45A pull cord inside. Not a fused one though. You'll need a dedicated 45A breaker at the fusebox for this. You'll also need to ensure that it is RCD protected.

Can't say whether 10mm is ok without knowing your installation method/route. Will it be clipped direct to studwork, buried in plaster, covered in insulation?

Get the electrician in, let them tell you what cable size is required and how they expect in to be run in.

They have to sign the work off and so, if they are ok about you supplying and running the cable they MUST be allowed to see the full run of cable as an inspection requirement.

If you board over and / or cover in insulation before inspection they are unlikely to certify the work.
