New Stopcock

Have got a new brass stopcock installed and wondering if there are any special precautions I should take to minimise any problems with it in the future. I've been told not to wind it fully open but close it a little bit so there is some play in the mechanism if it seizes up. Should I also conder spraying some silicone lubricant on it?

on the spindle won't hurt not the handle though
