NEW TIMER FITTING HELP

Hello chaps.
First post on here. I am a time served chippy,starting back in '84, before a few years ago I got into a job that pays me holidays etc!! Therefore I have a decent grasp of the other trades.
My Drayton LP111 24 hr CH timer is packing up, and I have got a cheap Horstmann C17 7 day timer. Before I blow myself up, the wiring appears a bit different. I have removed the old one, and fitted the new onto the original back plate, however, I have power but things are not working. The LP111 has N,L, then a link wire from L to 1, nothing in 2 and a Grey wire from the main cable going to 3.4 is empty.
Any thoughts?
I am not too bad at this sort of thing, although I would never wire the house up. I can put the old one back for the next couple of nights to give me CH.
Any help would be appreciated.

The existing link wire from L to 1, move it to L to 2.
Grey in number 3 move to number 4!

All with the power off

Time served, C & G and all that from 3 years day release to tech, and a father who is in his 70,s, having started out in the trade in 1955, who I apprenticed for, so a chippie? Definately. Woodentop? Yes, which I really appreciate now, having done a proper job for many years on the tools!
