Hi looking to put together a carpenters toolkit
Can anyone tell me what to put into my first tool kit
What makes to avoid and whats the best to buy

Buy the best quality you can afford, cheaper poor quality tools will cost you more in time and poor results.
If you use wood chisels buy a wood mallet and use it, nothing worse than seeing a 'carpenter' hitting his chisels with a hammer cause he can't be ars*d to keep them sharp.

Or get splitproof chisels and use the side of your hammer, like 99.9% of peeps do ;)

Always try and buy a good brand, you will get more pleasure out of using them and they will last. Good brands IMHO for hand tools Bahco, Stanley, Irwin, Estwing (for hammers) Marples (chisels) Wera (screwdrivers).
