Hi. This is my setup. I have a conventional heat only boiler in the ground floor kitchen. Hot water cylinder in the first floor bathroom airing cupboard with an attached wired manual cylinder stat. Wired room thermostat in the ground floor dining room. Wired Honeywell ST6300a heating and hot water programmer in the airing cupboard.

What would you recommend as a reasonably straight forward upgrade to a wireless programmer that operates both hot water and heating timings as well as wirelessly controlling the room temperature? The hot water cylinder stat will be on a fixed 60c setting.

Would there be a receiver box wired in the airing cupboard where the ST6300a is now? And then the portable wireless programmable unit that connects remotely to that and the wireless unit can be set for independent hot water timings and independent heating timings with associated room temperatures? Would the wired cylinder stat remain and be wired into the receiver unit? Would the current wired room stat just be disconnected and unused now?

Thanks in advance for recommendations of controllers.

A Drayton Wiser (dual channel) system could also be a straightforward swap, with an almost identical backplate to the ST6300A. Additionally, it has the ability to link to Draytons smart TRVs, as and when you can afford to update them.

Yes, the new receiver would replace the ST6300a

The 'wireless programmable unit' is usually a room thermostat and programmer - if your current thermostat works for you in its existing position, the new wireless stat could go in the same room.

The wired cylinder stat would remain, but you shouldn't need to worry about it. It should be connected into your wiring centre, not directly into the ST6300A.

The existing stat couldn't simply be disconnected, It forms part of the heating circuit.
If you don't mind leaving it there, you could turn it up to maximum, or you can bridge the call for heat and common terminals on the back of the stat.
Alternatively, if you wish to remove the stat completely, the wiring will have to be removed at the wiring centre, and the connection bridged out.

Thanks for all the info.
Just seen that my current programmer is actually a Honeywell ST6400C model. If I purchased this Drayton Wiser kit from Screwfix is it simply a case of unscrewing the Honeywell from the existing backplate in the airing cupboard and slotting on the Drayton hub unit and all should then work to program heating and also hot water via the Drayton app/new wireless thermostat unit? I will leave original wired room thermostat in situ turned up to max? Or does the backplate or wiring to it need changing? Trying to see if it could be a DIY swapout for me or not. Thanks.

What sort of functionality are you wanting to achieve e.g do you want to control everything from a smart phone, or do you just want a basic programmer to be located in a more convenient position?

Not quite that simple I'm afraid.
The backplate will need swapping for the Wiser one.
However, ignoring the earth terminal, the terminals N, L, 1, 2, 3 & 4, have the same layout as your existing backplate.
So it's just a case of taking the wire out of the ST6400c backplate, and putting it into the same terminal on the Wiser one.
A very DIY'able task.

Smartphone operating to a basic programmer located in the airing cupboard
