I’m currently replacing all my stair parts. I’ve replaced the newel post at the bottom of the stairs and I’m currently in the process of replacing the newel post on the half landing.
I’ve measured 900mm from the pitch line to get the height of my hand rail from the bottom newel which will sit at 40mm from the top of the newel bit when I transfer the same measurement to the newel on the half landing it has the hand rail sitting approx 200mm from the top of the newel.
My question is, although this is acceptable under building regs does it look right?
Is the solution to make the newel on the half landing shorter rather than full height?
Many thanks

photo?
sketch ?

no expert but done one and I don't understand.
The newels should be all the same height - surely?

Yeah the bottom newel and half landing newel are 1500mm. The issue is that the handrail joins the bottom newel at a different point to that on the half landing newel. Wondering whether that will look ok before I do it?

gaffertape/string and some screws banged into the wall for a dummy fit and give it a few days to see what it looks like

Just wondering if anyone had done it like this or whether they made the newel post shorter so it joins the handrail at a different point
