Hi there

Im new on this forum, and need some advice on a couple of things:-

1. Whats the best way to remove old emulsion from walls?

2. Also i have been applying standard white emulsion on to walls and in some areas the paint has started to bubble, does anyone know why it does this and anything i can do to prevent it from happening again?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Anthony

There loads of reasons how the emulsion is blistering. What EXACT name & make is the emulsion you have applied ?

Hi

The make of the emulsion i first applied was Wilkinson's own emulsion but although it did not blister the coverage was not great so i brought from B&Q standard Crown emulsion. As soon as i put that on it started blistering. Im thinking it may be the surface of the walls as i tried a couple of other areas as a tester on a more rougher surface and it was fine it did not blister or could it be the two different emulsions reacting?

any help would be much appreciated.

I've had this before.

dust and greace can have this effect.

the best option is to throughly clean the walls with soda then apply a sealant before trying the emulsion.

to seal, try watering down some PVA adhesive (1 water, 1 PVA). Paint this on and let it dry.

Thanks for that mate. When you say soda do you mean sugar soap? Also i have tried the pva and unfortunately it still blistered!

Think im at a loss really! May be take the lot off back to the plaster do you think?

What is the exact name & type of the both emulsions you used ? i.e. were they matt or soft sheen or silk etc ?

They were both matt emulsions! I was careful not mix as i heard silk and matt dont mix well, is that right?

Now what i need to ask is, what type of surface did you origanly emulsion over. Was it silk, soft sheen or matt ?

It was soft sheen but i did sand down to take the shine off! The funny thing is that i tried another wall which had a more rough texture on it and it was fine!

Next question is, where is the blistering coming from ? i.e is it from the soft sheen or first matt or second matt !
