He was intending to defraud drug-dealers and other criminals... prison might be the soft option. Is there a dope-test for Kippers?

"George Swinton Cottrell, senior aide to former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, pled guilty to running a ‘dark web’ money-laundering scam today. Under a plea-bargain agreement, Federal prosecutors reduced his charges to one count of wire fraud from the 21 charges he originally faced. Cottrell will be sentenced in March in the US District Court, facing a potential maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.

Aside from being a senior aide to Nigel Farage, Cottrell’s UKIP connections include his father Alexander, the 3rd
Baron Hesketh who defected to UKIP from the Tories in 2011 and has since donated large amounts to the party. This, not surprisingly, will be a gigantic embarrassment to Hesketh, UKIP and Farage himself."

"According to Cottrell’s own admission to the court, he offered:

Ways to transfer large amounts of cash out of the United States to avoid reporting requirements and disguising proceeds from criminal activity as legitimate business income for tax purposes.

He also admitted:

I falsely claimed that I would launder the criminal proceeds through my bank accounts for a fee. Rather than launder any of the money, though, I intended to retain the money."

ah the old "X is bad, therefore Y is OK" technique.

South African embassy staff used to be trained to use it to divert criticism of Apartheid.

your technique is an old one.

"Blair's crimes were not as bad as Stalin's"

"Never mind Stalin, let's talk about Attila"

So you don't want to hear about Nigel's criminal aide.

Is he a personal buddy of yours? Someone you support?

Or is it just that you don't like to see UKIP's reputation tarnished (still more)?

Is that why you attempt to divert attention away from him with irrelevant verbiage?

Surely you realise that the weasily debating tricks you were taught on your specialist websites are widely known?

So to summarise your comments on the UKIP crook, Nigel's aide, who faces prison or worse, and the effects on UKIPs reputation

- other bad things also happen
- commenting on your comments is delusional
- you like 1960's entertainments

It's wonderful that you have nothing to say about the crook, his criminality and stupidity, or his party. You just came on this thread to try to stir up a bid of mud and divert attention from the crook.

It must be painful to you, as a Faragist.

Nowhere have I supported or defended him. Couldn't give two hoots about UKIP now as they have achieved their goal (unless by some undemocratic action we don't leave the EU) He's been found guilty of a crime and will be punished. You revel in these type of stories as it seems to make you feel superior. Do you drive a Prius ?. But the main point I was making, ripping of a few crims of a few grand or Genocide, hmmm, tough call as to whats worse.

Hit the nail on the head.

Hey JohnD - what about all the Surrey men & women that may have done some money laundering?

22 years old and believed to be worth £250 million.
Seemingly he threatened the traffickers (FBI in this case) with exposure if they didn't pay him a load of virtual money.
I reckon 10 years. Probably lucky his head is still on his shoulders.
Which is more than a few inmates in the amazonas can say. Incarcerated in a
US penitentiary for a long time will give him a whole new outlook on life.

We really ought discuss just how stupid this guy was to think he could defraud criminals, and not get a wooden overcoat. But I expect daddy will pay the fine, and the sentence will be reduced to 3years minimum security. And it begs the question of just how "dark" the dark web is nowadays.
