nightmare oven element - please help!

S

skuba

i've got a leisure rangemaster eb 10 frx and the element needs replacing. i've taken off the back panel inside the oven to get to the element, and i was expecting a few screws holding it in place ...but there aren't any screw heads! there are 2 round pieces of metal, which i think could be the end of some screw threads as if it was screwed in from the rear of the oven, but i've been around the back and there's nothing to unscrew??

so i wondered if it was just clipped in to place, but yanking it about doesn't fully release it. the bottom half of the bracket has come free so the element swivels a bit, but it doesn't want to come free. i could pull harder, but i don't want to risk causing damage

any ideas? am i missing something here??? thanks....

P.S. apologies, i know it needs a clean!

the outside ,rear of the oven ,has to be removed to gain access to the electric connections and element anchoring screws. turn off electric supply first .

thank you both

unfortunately, i don't have a picture at the moment, but on the back of the appliance is a black terminal connection box where the power supply comes in. do i actually have to remove this connection box to then remove the actual rear of the oven casing? this seems a real pain! thanks again

p.s.
the connection box fixed to the rear of the oven looks a little like this...

that is the terminal block where the mains electric supply cable connects.you need to undo the actual back casing of the oven. you don't usually need to touch that terminal block. but ovens vary from one mànufcturer to another. send pics of the whole back of yours and can give you some help

hi terryplumb

here's a photo from the back of the oven. i can only apologise for the state of it! we haven't take it out since we moved in and it needs a clean!! but you can just about make out the terminal block at the bottom right hand side of the appliance

ta. yes the whole metal back panel ( labels stuck on it in a few places )has to be removed by taking out the screws around the edges ..by the way one of the 2 screws that holds the element in position has fallen out and will be inside the back of the oven , you must find it .

thanks! i'll take a look this evening

when you say "you must find it", do you mean for a safety reason? or just to re-attach the element?! i was thinking if i couldn't find it i could just use another screw, but if there's a safety risk leaving a loose screw in the oven somewhere i'll have to find it out!

thanks again

not good to have a loose metal screw floating about ,could cause problem ,esp if comes in contact with electric terminals or conductors. and of course you need it to fit new element.
