I'm with TCC on the first issue

The external influences to which each part of an installation will be exposed in service are amongst the important characteristics to be taken into account when selecting electrical equipment and methods of protection for safety for the installation. (Regulation Groups 300-01 and 512-06 of BS 7671 refer.)

So in this instance, the external influences that the installation may be exposed to in normal service or maintenance would be AD3. For DIYers, AD3 as defined in BS 7671 refers to installations that are likely to be subjected to water sprays.

So IMO the FCU/DP switch would be Ok in it's present location (even though it's location is far from ideal) if the IP rating was suitable for AD3 which is IP56.

Note that I was careful to say 'should'.

The only place I have seen it written is in the Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations so 'should' and 'guide' dont make regulation.

This the same as the 300mm distance for a socket from the edge of a sink. very sensible, but not a regulation.

If i saw the FCU in teh sink base and was doing a PIR, it would get a code 2.
