Help!

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I've just bought a 1991 Nissan Micra, but today I cannot get the ignition key to turn. There is a button marked 'push' next to it, but this just seems solid.

It's as if the immobilisor is jammed.
Any solutions?

can you turn the steering wheel? if not, then the STEERING LOCK is active. turn the wheel while turning the ignition, and both should come free (though i dont know if cars that early had steering locks?)

The push button is usually to take the key out.
Wiggle the steering wheel while you're turning the key........ as stated above sounds like the steering lock is engaged.

Not related, but MK2 Punto's have a push button on the ignition. This enables you to turn the key back beyond "off" in order to leave the sidelights on. reason being, all the Punto's lights go off with the ignition (unlike most cars), so if you need to leave the sidelights on for road safety, they had to incorporate this feature.
