Hi all

Back again for a heads up on an intermittent fault on the 4x4

About a month ago 3 Dash lights came on 4x4 , ABS & ESP , the Car was due a Service and MOT under an agreement when bought a year ago , So it went in for this work and they 'sorted' it out , saying there was a bad earth on the Dash ,But after driving maybe 20 miles the lights came back on , Back to the Garage to be fixed again , where they said they had changed the ABS sensor , got the Car back , but after driving maybe 10 miles ...... yes the lights came back on ! When the Car is stopped for any length of time long or short the Lights don't come on when restarted , it can be anything from 5 or 10 miles to 30 or 40 when the Lights come back on , they then stay on till the Ignition is switched off.
The Car is being picked up again tomorrow by the Nissan Dealership , The good news is its all under warranty

ANY IDEAS PLEASE

regards

Lucky

Its very difficult to guess at faults like this, you need to do the diagnosis on the system and go from there as there are multiple sensors.
Normally wheel speed sensors are a very common failure as they do get a hard life, the wiring connectors can also suffer from moisture ingress etc.

Thanks for taking the trouble to have a look and reply , The Car has been in the Main agents since Tuesday , I cant fault how they are
doing their best to sort it (Chorley Nissan) , They picked it up on Tuesday leaving me a Pulsar till they return it , hopefully fixed !!
But I`m guessing they are struggling to find the fault ...... I`ll update you with news , if it happens

Quick update ..... its stuck in the Garage awaiting a part they are supplying FOC , unsure yet what part , but I`ll find out

Cheers

Finally have the Car back , hopefully the fault will be cleared now

For info , they have replaced the OSR Abs Sensor and the ABS Pump , according to their Invoice details (no charge warrantied work)

This is on a 08 Plate Car with 64k on the clock ..... is this normal can I expect more sensors going down ??

Lucky

That's been quite a hit for the seller, so lets hope for no more ABS issues! I've heard of suspension knocks and timing chain issues on some, but yours hasn't got many miles on.
Change the oil and filter early which helps EGR problems.
John :)

Back to square one , the same Warning Lights have reappeared , so its back into the Main Agents on Tuesday , Does each Wheel have an ABS sensor ?? it`ll be interesting to see what they replace this time ...... Cars still only done 67k !!

As John said, timing chain issues, our Nissan Micra only had 11k miles on it and it kept throwing up an engine light on the dash, after speaking to many guys "in the trade" it turns out the chains are made of chocolate and our chain had stretched!! Don't know if this is affecting your car though.

Each wheel will have its individual ABS sensor.
Lets hope they find it soon Phil - its a good job this car is under warranty! Some ABS faults are triggered by the tyres not wearing identically on each wheel due to tracking faults or whatever.
Lets know what happens!

What happens here is that a stretched timing chain causes the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors to go out of phase, triggering the engine management light. Thankfully there's not too many vehicles affected considering the volume of them on the road (no consolation if its yours ) and the failures don't seem to be due to lubrication issues. Major work to replace timing chains though!

Quick update, no news is good news they say !!

Car was collected by the Dealers last Friday , they said it was going to a Specialist to check the ABS Sensors & ABS Pump , I commented to them that was odd , they supposedly replaced to ABS pump about 3 months ago (Service sheet / internal invoice unpriced said so) , So I`m still waiting to see what will happen , Just spoke to the Foreman tonight , he said it might be the ABS Module ?? Anybody knows what that does ??

Regards

Phil

The ABS module is a remarkable bit of kit, in the fact that it monitors the speeds of the individual wheels, and can release or even apply the brakes as required.
As if that wasn't clever enough it has to take into consideration tyre wear and the effect that the differential(s) have on the wheel speed. Hardly the component you'd replace just for the hell of it!
John :)

I hope they are giving you a suitable loan car while they guess what's wrong with yours. I'm guessing yours was a used purchase. Can you reject it and ask for a refund?

They gave me a Nissan Note this time 800 miles on the Clock , to be fair they have been very good with the Courtesy Cars etc
Re rejecting it , ive had it maybe 16 months now , but it has been back in 3 or 4 times , This time they changed another ABS Sensor
apparently , though I`ve not seen the copy of the internal Invoice

Cheers
