I know this is a question you'll be sick of answering but does anyone know why I can get hot water but no heat from any radiators?

I put the heating on and the boiler fired up as usual but then I noticed the radiators werent getting hot so I had a look at the boiler and it had gone off again but the lights on the programmer were still showing as on. I turned it off and after a while turned it back on and it fired up but turned off after a couple of minutes.

I have a gravity fed system (I think) where I can have hot water on it's own but can only have heating if the hot water is on too and I have checked and the hot water is indeed getting hot so it appears to my uneducated brain to be a central heating problem.

I've tried to find my pump to check that but I havent a clue where it is. I've looked in the cupboard with the cylinder but it isn't there, Ive looked around the boiler itself but cant see it and I've looked under the carpet for any access points into the floor but cant see anything obvious.

I have a glowworm spacesaver mark2 boiler which is in the 'porch' in a small extension at the front of the house downstairs, my hot water tank is upstairs in the bathroom not directly above the boiler, it is around 8 foot away as the crow flies. My fire is on an external wall where there is no chimney just a metal flue up in the wall cavity.

Sorry for the stupid details Its just from reading similar questions that seems to be what you guys ask for so I tried to give as much as I could.

I've included a picture of where things are in the house, the top pic is downstairs and the bottom is upstairs. As I said the boiler is in a tiny extension on an external wall.

I don't even know if I have a boiler or if that would be the problem but I thought I'd start there unless you know differently?

Thanks for reading

Is your heating thermostat turned up enough?

Do you have a multi meter and any experience using one?

The thermostat is turned all the way up to 30 and if I turn it down it clicks when it passes around 19 degrees so I assume that it is working ok?

I don't have a multi meter but I do have experience of using one.

thanks for the reply

You said its gravity you think, if you turn the heating on the boiler fires, I'd firstly check the pump and that its running,

Ive just done a bit more searching and finally found the pump under the floor in the outhouse which is joined onto the house. I took the screw out and the bit inside spins really frwely with a screwdriver but the pump doesnt appear to do anything at all when the boiler is turned on. Also I font know if its relevent but the pipe going to the pump doesnt get hot.

I think I may have been wrong about the gravity thing. I have a boiler downstairs a cylinder upstairs and a little tank in the loft that I believe tops up the cylinder or something. I went in the loft and the little tank had plenty of water in it and the ball valve is working fine.

Any ideas? And thanks for the reply

Well you have found the Time Clock, Room Stat and now the pump, if you cannot determine which (if any) of the components are getting an electrical feed, then you will have to call in an engineer who can! it is impossible to advise further

Same as Boilerman2 said, without being able to carry out any electrical checks it's probably time to call your local Plumber.
