hello. I wonder if you could be so nice as to throw some ideas my way. last night i went to use the cold tap and ome water came out but it got slower and slower and eventually stopped. it did the same with all my other cold water taps but i had plenty of hot water in all taps. i went to look at the pressure on my Megaflo Indirect Cylinder and it was at about 2 which should be fine. But then I noticed that the power switch to it was turned to the off position. It is one of those switches that looks like your average UK light switch on the wall. (you know you press it at the top or bottom and theres a red marking to idicate that its on). Anyway there is absolutely no way in hell that that switch was pressed by a person. It's almost as if it pressed it self. Which to me seems impossible? The cylinder and the mention switch are located behind a door that shuts solidly and I am the only one in the house at all times. Now I flipped the switch back to the on position and went to bed. When I got up this morning it is still on the on position and upon checking the cold water taps, some came out but again it trickled down to nothing within a minute and now it's all gone again. I am not sure what to do? Am I calling a plumber or an electrican? thanks for reading.

I suspect that the switch you're referring to is the immersion heater switch so would normally be off if you heat the water from a gas boiler. Your problem with the cold water has nothing to do with that switch.

Call a plumber.

immersion heater? but the switch has a wire on it going directly into the megaflow cyclinder. also the cyclinder was stone cold, it is usually warm in the cupboard whenever i open it.

You need a plumber, it looks like the mains water into your house/flat has stopped for some reason, your getting some water out the hot taps because the cylinder is pressurised, run the hot tap for a few minutes and the water will stop, the pressure guage is reading the pressure in the heating circuit not the megaflo and finally  the switch is most likely an immersion heater although if you switched it on last night you should have had hot water this morning, your heating/hot water system has a few faults to be sorted.

Thanks for the responses. I have no water at all upstairs now. The only water is coming from the kitchen tap and i've filled up every pot in my kitchen with water and it's still giving out water but getting slower. I don't know what an immersion heater is so I feel stupid now. I bought the property brand new a few weeks ago. when i moved in the plumbing was all wrong and we had no hot water, the plumber has been back and forth so many times that I think he should move in. They did not explain the system to me at all. I'm glad that all these visits are free.

An immersion heater is a heating element in your hot water cylinder, which you can use to heat the water with electricity. Usually you would leave it turned off if you have a gas boiler as gas is cheaper than electricity.

Sorry, I don't know an awful lot about megaflo / unvented hot water.
