Hi all,

Just had a call from the in-laws, they have no hot water flow to their bathroom basin mixer tap this morning.

The flow to that particular tap has always been pretty rubbish. The system is a conventional open vent storage cylinder.

Having a look around on here, the problems seem to centre around,

1. Air lock (doubt it's this as there has been some flow and no recent mods to the system)

2. Sludge/cr@p in the system somewhere, be it scale in the pipework or blocked filters on the tap (most likely I think as it seems to have been gettin gprogressively worse).

I know it's a big ask, not having seen the set up etc, but does anyone have any other suggestions as to what it may be (before I head over there later today and get wet?)

All replies greatly appreciated!

I don't know yet as I haven't been round to look at it. I know that's not much help for you guys to make a diagnosis on. I was hoping to go round armed with a bit of knowledge!

If water flows OK from the bath taps then I would strongly suspect the basin tap to be the culprit (stuck washer maybe?). Start with the easy stuff!

Cheers mate.

I was going to isolate and disconnect the tap, then run a flexie from the pipework into the bath and check the flow to the tap.

If this is OK, I'll strip the tap down.

My psychic guide tells me there is a rat`s skull in the pipework and it`s blocking the flow to the tap  I have appealed to The Higher Side to show the rat "The Light" but all the little bugger did was psychically run up my trouser leg and nip my arse

All sorted. Replaced the cruddy gate valve with a 1/4 turn affair and problem solved.

Alls well that ends well!

Cheers guys
