No hot water from the taps

Build up of feathers? - There are no birds in the bedroom, well maybe in my younger days but not the feathered type :D

The pipe leaving the cylinder is warm for a couple of feet but then gets cooler, this is probably because the water is not travelling along it to the taps?

The shower is in a separate bathroom and as far as I know the plumber 'tapped' into the existing hot water system therefore it's not working. The shower has an independant header tank for the cold supply in a seperate location to the original tank. The shower is also 'driven by a pump but its running flat cold because of the hot water situation.

Thanks

if cold can't get in, hot can't come out. if the cold feed is blocked you won't be having a shower tonight. debris can block feed pipes, (including feathers) sounds like yours has been building up for some years. horse feathers?

could also be a scaled up pipe (where the pipe leaves the top of the hwsv, as reduced flow over time may indicate). Either this or a blockage in the feed as suggested with feathers/loose insulation got down there etc. You need to check the cistern inside to have a look.
